Ray passed peacefully at home on January 7,2025, at the age of
85 surrounded by his wife and family.
The family moved to Phoenix in 1952 where he attended Phoenix Union High School and later ASU where he graduated with an electronics degree while working as an engineer at KOY Radio in Phoenix.
Ray was drafted into the Army in 1963 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp and was stationed at the Army Pictorial Center, NY attaining the rank of SP5.
After the Army he worked for Kaiser Aerospace in Phoenix designing cable television systems. Ray became a commercially rated private pilot, instrument rated, multi-engine rated, and taught flying for 40 years in his spare time.
He worked at King Radio in Olathe, KS as an avionics design engineer, then began a27 -year career with Collins Aerospace in Melbourne, FL, where he joined the design team for airline radios and served as chief test pilot.
He was an Amateur Radio Operator (K7MLE) for 67 years and an active member of the Tonto Amateur Radio Association in Payson since 2006.
Ray and Dorothy were married for 62 years, having met at KOY Radio. It was a special bond that only one could imagine. Ray is survived by his wife, Dorothy, two sisters: Jean DeVera of Tucson, AZ, and Patricia Falconer (Alan) of Sugar Grove, PA and several nieces and nephews.
Ray’s passing has left a huge hole in the hearts of his wife, siblings and friends because truly Everyone Loved Raymond!!
